Whether it's a candid photo from an employee event or a curated product photo, when you add a photo to a social media post customer engagement increases as compared to text alone.
4 ways to improve your photos
Clean your lens - It seems simple, but a dirty lens leads to a messy photo. It only takes a moment to clean your phone's camera lens on your cotton shirt (for DSLR cameras use the manufacturer's instructions). This small step will make your images much more clear and professional looking.
Adjust the lighting - How your subject is lit can change how it's perseived. Having a harsh light pointed straigt at the subject can often make them appear washed-out. If they are standing directly under an overhead light, it can add shadows to their eyes. Look for warm lighting - think of sunrise or sunset. Having the right lighting is especially important when using a smart phone to photograph people of color. Smartphones have notoriously struggled to capture the proper skin tone.
Crop photos instead of using zoom - When you zoom in on your subject you can not only create a pixelated effect, but you don't give yourself any flexibility later on in editing. Instead, take the full photo and then use photo editing tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Canva, etc.) to crop the image around the specific subject.
Play around with the angles - The angle you take the photo at can impact the final results. Not every photo needs to be taken straight on. Maybe by taking the photo from the side will highlight something new or make the lighting less harsh.
Now, clean your lense and go try some new things. Don't be affraid to take multiple photos at once so that you have multiple options - especially when someone always seems to blink in at least one photo.
